I don’t know how to blogBy Dogen on April 24, 2008 | No Comments
“Hello friends, my name is dogentricks.com and I’m here to tell you what it’s like living without the internet. That was a lie, I have access to the internet. Unfortunately, this is how it works. The computer at my house is slower that rocks, which are, as you all know, stationary. On top of that, the keyboard is Japanese. So, I’ll type out a sentence, wait 5 seconds, and be confronted with 10 spelling errors and random punctuation marks. That’s just how it works. Thus, as you can all imagine, it is extremely difficult for me to blog at home. On top of that, the environment doesn’t exactly encourage creative thinking as I sit on a stool whilst my host brother throws small toys at me.
Although, that is no excuse for the amount of time I’ve gone without blogging, save the I love David blog entry ; ) I apologize, sincerely. I know a good number of people come to this site and I am sorry for letting down the visitors with a massive lack of entries. Thus, I am currently blogging without the internet. It’s 1:00 AM and I’m lying in bed with my computer in my lap. I’ll post this once I get back to school and have some phat net access. Until then, hang in there! Of course by the time you’re reading this you’ll already have hung there for quite some time.
Huge update. First, yes, I’m still a happy clam. My girlfriend got a ton of amazing job offers during her job hunting and I’m proud to say she’s found several enticing places to choose from. But of course that is her affair and I don’t plan to shed the details here. As for myself, a new semester at school has started and I have friends galore. Here’s a quick story for you – Much unlike before, when I sit in the courtyard and chill with friends, I don’t feel out of place. I understand most of the conversations, I understand the mannerisms, I understand the air. When someone yells out, “”おい、ケビン!”" I can turn with confidence and reply with grace, which is fantastic. I’ve made about 5 hysterical friends since the new quarter started and hang out with them almost everyday. Today was 慶応’s 150 year anniversary and everyone ended up going to Disney Land! Except me. I had another interview, but I’m not liable to disclose anything more than that. In any case, it was a fantastic experience and I’ll be going back for part 3 明日。頑張る!
Beyond that, I can still feel my Japanese steadily improving. I am studying my ass off and taking twice the minimum course load – YIKERS. But it is definitely paying off. I can say crazy things now like, 水力発電, which translates to hydro-electric power generation, and 情熱大陸, continent of passion! I ended up finishing the 村上春樹 book that I bought several months ago and have to say trekking though that 本 was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had – it will definitely influence my writing. Finally, and perhaps most amazing:
I received an e-mail today from Softball’s main singer inviting me to a concert in May and a chance to talk a bit with them. My stomach pretty much did windmills while I was reading it. How would if feel if you were personally invited by the most influential band of your life to a concert and coffee talk?
GREAT!
Train hard.”
